The Cedar Valley High School Track & Field program began its inaugural season this week with strong performances from their core group of underclassmen. Our Aviators competed in 8 different events in the first annual Crimson & White Inter-squad Meet, setting the bar (and expectations) high for future Aviators.

Sophomore Anne Ballard continued to show her versatility and complete athletic dominance, following up a strong XC and Indoor season by winning the girls Mile run in a time of 5:29. She followed up her Mile victory by finishing the 100m Dash in 5th place with a time of 14.69 into a very strong negative wind, and then winning the 400m Dash with a time of 1:03.55.

On the boys side, Freshman Jordan Glenn also raised eyebrows by winning the 100m Dash in a time of 11.63 seconds, a very respectable mark for an early season competition. Following close behind were sophomore standouts Xander Gardner and Grant Salter in 11.84 and 11.85 seconds respectively.

Gardner also showed his versatility across the sprint disciplines by winning the 400m Dash in 54.32 seconds, improving on his best mark from last season by more than half a second. Freshman sprinter Diego Escalante finished just behind Gardner in 55.75.

Highlights in the women’s sprint events included performances from Junior sprinter Stephanie Woodbury (who also finished 1st in Long Jump) and Sophomore Allysa Gent; with Woodbury inching out Gent at the line, finishing the 100m Dash in 14.26 and 14.27, despite a strong negative wind. Gent also won the 100m Hurdles, and finished 2nd in the 400m Dash.

Other standout performances included Junior superstar Lia Pili in the Discus, with a throw of 35.71m (117′ 1.5″) that would have placed her top 5 in 6A state last year; Freshman Jacob Stoddard who won the 110m Hurdles in 18.72 seconds; Freshman Ian Garcia who placed 2nd in the 110m Hurdles, 3rd in the 400m Dash, and 5th in the 100m Dash; and Macy Carwin who won the boys mile in 4:59.98 seconds.

After the UHSAA resumes Spring Sport competition following the 2 week suspension of Athletic activities due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, our Aviators will continue their Track & Field season at the Uintah Invitational on April 4th, 2020.
