Girls Varsity Soccer · Battle of Unbeaten Region Teams Falls Cedar Valleys way in 3-1 win.

On a great night for a soccer game, the Cedar Valley Girls Soccer team took down the Ogden Tigers in a 3-1 win to keep their unbeaten run going and ruin the tigers win streak.

The game started with both teams battling hard in the midfield with not many chances coming early in the game. The first chance came to the Tigers on the 16th minute which was comfortably saved by Sophomore Saige Meryhew. With the pressure building from both sides, the ball found its way to Senior Aubrie Anderson who rounded the keeper and tapped the ball in to put the Aviators up 1-0. The momentum was with the Aviators and not long after, a ball from Sophomore Jordynn Peake found its way to Sophomore Presley Devey who fired a rocket past the Ogden keeper to put the girls 2-0 up. With time ticking down in the half, the ball was cheaply given away in the midfield and Ogden took that chance and slotted home to put the score at 2-1 at the half.

Knowing that the Tigers where going to come out fast and hard. Cedar Valley had to be ready. In the first 10 minutes of the second half, the tigers bombarded Cedar Valleys goal which put the Aviators on the back foot and having to calm the storm. The second half was end to end with chances coming from both teams and no team wanting to give in. Ogden soon scored a goal which was ruled offside and CV knew that had to step up. With time ticking in the half, Freshman Rylie Beck hustled to the ball which gave the Aviators a corner with 5 minutes left on the clock. A great delivery by Freshman Bailey McArthur found Sophomore Sadie Reall who finished the play and put CV in the driving seat. With time ticking down the girls saw out the game and managed to retain their place at the top of region.

” The game was a battle of two great teams. Ogden are very well coached and have a game plan of what they wanted to do. I have to applaud our defense and especially our rock in goal Saige Meryhew. She was outstanding today, she made some wonderful saves and im so proud of her and all the team. It looks like its a two horse race for the region and we will have to be ready to face Ogden again which will be a heart stopper to watch” – Coach Mitchell

The girls soccer team get the week off with their bye week and will play again on Monday against Tooele @ 6pm on the turf. Thanks for all who came out tonight to support!
