Crimson Regiment Band, Percussion Band · Crimson Regiment Drum Line and Percussion Audition Information

Hello Crimson Regiment!
We are excited to publish the drumline and front ensemble audition material. Unfortunately we are still working out the details of when we are exactly going to have auditions. Here is what we know so far. We are looking at holding auditions for all Crimson Regiment Percussion on April 18-19 from 4pm – 8pm each day in the Frontier Middle School Band Room. This will be a clinic/ audition. We hope that each student will be there the whole time on each day. We know that this might be short notice for everyone but we want everyone to do the best you can to make both evenings for the audition. Mr. Murphy will be there to assess who he thinks would be best on each marching percussion position. Many factors will contribute to Mr. Murphy’s decision. He will not make any final decisions until our first marching camp on May 11th. This way if there are any conflicts with the initial round of auditions then you will still have a chance to gain a desired position.
Here is what Mr. Murphy wants from you on the day of the audition. He understands that some of the material might be advanced for some. What he will be assessing is your ability level with rhythm, stick control, fluency on the instrument, ability to adapt and learn, and most importantly your attitude. The hope is that even though you will not be able to play everything on the page, you will be able to show up with a great attitude and a desire to learn and work hard to show Mr. Murphy your best. What we do not want to happen is for someone to become discouraged with the music and decide to either not show up or quit marching band altogether. Remember, we are building a culture of positive, hardworking, and resilient students that tackle adversity head on. Not showing up or quitting because the music is difficult would be a step in the wrong direction for our program. As stated before, many factors go into people gaining certain percussion parts besides being able to merely play the notes and rhythms.
Please pencil in April 18-19 from 4-8pm at Frontier Middle School for auditions. We will be sending out another email to either confirm the dates and times or provide a change. If you have any questions please feel free to contact either Mr. Landis or Mr. Murphy, who’s information is attached to the audition material.
All the best,
Orien Landis
